I have always liked Pokémon. Collecting companions, watching them grow, and seeing them evolve is fun in its own right. I started wondering what would happen if I brought that feeling into a roguelike card game: each run would ask you to build a team on the fly and keep changing it as you go. That idea became Evo! Partner Expedition.

My favorite moment is often just before a battle. The shop offers a few partner cards, and I have to decide whom to recruit, whether to reroll, who belongs in the front row, and who should stay behind. Three matching cards from the same family, star level, and branch can also combine into an evolution. Small decisions can send a run in a very different direction.

Once I press “Start Battle,” the team fights automatically, and I get to see whether those choices worked. Then it is back to exploring, finding equipment, and adjusting the team for the next fight. For me, the fun is not only in winning. It is in trying a new combination and seeing whether a partner I almost overlooked turns out to be useful this time.
